Great article - thanks. I share a lot of his source-energy in revenge. That's the honest answer in a world where everyone loves to see a great failure but hails the great success story. We need to move the discussion past age-based and comma-based success. This might be the start of that narrative.

I'd actually missed this when it came out, but was so intrigued by the intro to today's newsletter that I knew I had to check it out -- and was blown away. This is as good as anything I've ever seen in say, the NYT Magazine. Just fantastic work, Polina! What a fascinating interview and world to explore.

Great profile! My wife and I are watching the latest season of Owning Manhattan, and your piece gives me a different perspective on the show and Ryan.

One aspect I know from my own life that you touched on:

If your inner well-being is conditional on external success, you can chase and catch every deal and marker of success in the world, and still feel like you've never arrived.

It's like running on a Golden Treadmill, believing that one day you'll catch the horizon.

Ok finally got a chance to read and I'm so impressed with the power of a good profile. With the Anthony Scaramucci profile, for example, I was surprised how much I ended up liking him and rooting for him! And for me, this piece on Ryan Serhant was the opposite - while a lot of people look up to his style and success, this really "unglamorized" him and shows how demanding the discipline, sacrifices, and daily routine are behind the scenes in order to have his life. Such a wonderful piece into another fascinating person!

I’m so glad you liked it, Anna! Thank you so much for the feedback and fascinating perspective. Isn’t it interesting that what some people are motivated by, others see and say “hmmm no thanks, those tradeoffs aren’t worth it for me?” Appreciate you!
