You are such a beautiful writer. Thanks for sharing such a raw experience. This lesson about rumination of imagined futures is one I needed to hear today!

Hi Polina, thank you for the beautiful story! And I just wanted to offer that even if what seemed like tragedy would’ve struck, maybe it’s not tragedy …

We had a similar conversation with our doctor nearly 20 years ago, also about our third child and we also decided to go forward anyway.

Our little boy is developmentally about three or four years old now, even though in real life, he is now 18. Although he is developmentally very different from most 18-year-olds (he doesn’t know how to read, he has just learned in the last couple of years how to speak a few sentences: >, he has had many serious setbacks), he is loved, and makes so many people very happy!

Although he won’t likely be able to contribute like most 18-year-olds and although he probably won’t be able to ever live on his own, he is contributing in many different ways nonetheless.

I think what your doctor should be sorry about, is, in addition to her tone, basically giving you a single choice (effectively) rather than multiple choices. Thank goodness, you saw the light that day … the picture of you with your little twins is so beautiful! Thank you again for writing all this for us.

You really put us in your shoes in that so very frightening scene — and also gave us an important insight about our abilities, to stay calm, to ask questions and to move forward. Happy birthday to your beautiful children, and here’s to many blessings forward.

I love this part - “ Whenever my mind starts catastrophizing about work, my family, my health, or the future, I notice that I’m almost always trying to solve problems that don’t exist. I’m fearful about a future I haven’t lived.”

As someone who lives with anxiety, these words ring true and are very helpful to remember.

Also, I’m so sorry and angry for you about that first doctor. Yes, doctor’s are human, but that’s a very serious mistake that could have led to the worst decision of your life. I’m so glad you used all the tools at your disposal to get the right answers.

As a dad of 3-year-old twins, this really hit home.

I still remember all the worries during the pregnancy. Three years later, watching them run around together puts it all in perspective.

“In this moment, everything is okay.” ❤️

3 years old! Wow! So glad everything was - and is - okay!

“But I’ve learned there’s a massive difference between preparing for reality and suffering through imagination.”

These words are brilliant and the truth so rarely spoken.

Moms are a powerful force. So glad you are here to share your story.

With their God complex, doctors love to speak with such effing authority, when the bastards are so often clueless and/or flat out wrong. Thank God this one was.
