Who is Angel Reese?
Angel Reese grew up outside Baltimore. She learned the game from her mother, a former college star, and played against her younger brother in the family driveway. She was a McDonald’s All-American at Saint Frances Academy and became the highest-ranked recruit in the University of Maryland’s history. After two seasons there, she transferred to LSU in 2022 to play for Kim Mulkey.
At LSU she became a national celebrity almost overnight. In 2023 she set an NCAA record with 34 double-doubles and led LSU to its first national championship, beating Caitlin Clark’s Iowa in the final. She was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player. In the final minutes of that game she flashed John Cena’s “you can’t see me” taunt at Clark, which started a culture-war debate and kicked off the Clark–Reese rivalry that has helped drive record ratings for women’s basketball ever since. Her Instagram following passed 1 million during that tournament.
The Chicago Sky drafted her seventh overall in 2024. As a rookie she broke the WNBA single-season rebounding record and made the All-Star team. Her second season brought another All-Star selection and a league rebounding title, but it ended badly. She publicly criticized the team, the Sky suspended her for part of a game, and Chicago missed the playoffs again.
In April 2026, Atlanta traded two first-round picks for her. It was the best season of her career. She became the fastest player to 1,000 career rebounds, set the single-game record with 26 rebounds, set single-season records for total rebounds (521), offensive rebounds (206) and double-doubles (32), and won Defensive Player of the Year. She also won gold with Team USA at the 2026 FIBA World Cup.

Controversies / criticism
The 2023 taunt: Her “you can’t see me” gesture toward Caitlin Clark at the end of the 2023 title game drew criticism, along with a defense that she was being held to a different standard than male players and white athletes. She also clashed with Jill Biden over the then first lady’s suggestion that runner-up Iowa be invited to the White House.
Chicago exit: In 2025, after she criticized the Sky’s performance in a Chicago Tribune interview, the team suspended her for half a game for “statements detrimental to the team.” She also picked up an automatic suspension for technical fouls. The Sky traded her the following April.
Rookie fine: In 2024 she was fined $1,000 for skipping postgame media availability after a game against Clark’s Indiana Fever.
Net worth & money
There is no reliably audited public net-worth figure. Forbes estimated her 2025 earnings at $9.4 million, about $9 million of it from endorsements and other off-court work. Her 2026 WNBA salary is $350,692 under the new CBA’s rookie scale, and she is now eligible for a maximum extension worth up to $1.4 million a year. She has publicly disputed a widely circulated $2 million net-worth estimate as “way off.” Treat celebrity net-worth sites as unverified.
