I always presume Hanlon's Razor now, it does make life so much better! But how should we respond when the other party is malicious? Generally speaking, I simply don't engage. However, this can be difficult at times, especially when my significant other believes I am enabling the malice by not responding in a way she deems adequate.
Not engaging seems to limit malicious activity but the risk of a new attack is always there.

I was in a similar situation recently, and someone told me: "No one can shake you if you yourself are at peace." Also, check out this Dossier on Anthony Ray Hinton & how he dealt with malice: https://theprofile.substack.com/p/the-profile-dossier-anthony-ray-hinton
