Wow. This is really phenomenal writing. Huge topic, tons of research-- all synthesized into helpful, compulsively readable, actionable insights. Well done.
Wonderful insight and takeaways! I'm beginning to conduct interviews for a podcast and while I feel confident I'm able to build rapport, these tips you've gathered are a goldmine! ❤️ I love starting off with an unexpected question, and mirroring their statements to turn into questions... simple tactics that can change the entire interview. Love it! Thank you!
Great write-up, Polina. My big takeaway is the bit about "the best way to become a better interviewer is to interview." It's one thing to read about these techniques, but they're meaningless without action.
This is so insightful, Polina! That you for all the research and thought you put into this. I love interviewing people and these are really helpful ideas for improving.
Also: I literally started reading prepared to comment, “But what about Sean Evans!?” So glad you included him… definitely a modern legend of the interviewing game.
Loved this! Interviewing is an art form. I’ve only interviewed “experts” for articles and work etc, and I often only realise the gaps AFTER the inter. It’s left me in awe of people who do it so well/Oprah (she’s the goat to me). Thanks for writing this, it was so great.
The art of asking good questions, truly a luxury, all the things mentioned are definitely what keep me locked in when I am observing a podcast or interview. Great work!

Immutable truth: to get better at something, learn from those that are better than you.
So true!

As a former executive recruiter, after 30 years of interviewing I learned a great deal. Very good article Polina! I always enjoy reading your work.

Anyone, not just interviewers, would benefit from something like this. Wonderfully distilled research, here.
