Who is Jacob Misiorowski?
Misiorowski grew up outside Kansas City as a Royals fan. He went to Grain Valley High School. COVID-19 canceled his senior season in 2020. The MLB draft that year was cut to five rounds, and he went undrafted.
He went to Crowder College, a junior college in southwest Missouri. A torn meniscus ended his first season after two games. In 2022 he went 10–0 with a 2.72 ERA and 136 strikeouts in 76 innings. He committed to LSU.
He never went to LSU. At the 2022 MLB Draft Combine, his fastball averaged 99.8 mph. The Brewers drafted him 63rd overall. They paid him a $2.35 million signing bonus, more than double the $1.1 million slot value for that pick.
He reached the majors in June 2025. In his debut he threw five no-hit innings and got the win. In his second start he threw six perfect innings. He was named an All-Star after only five big-league games, the fastest in history. Some players criticized the pick. He struggled after the break and finished his rookie year with a 4.36 ERA.
In 2026 he became the best pitcher in baseball. He started on Opening Day. He had a 0.23 ERA in May. In June he broke the record for the fastest pitch by a starter three times, ending at 105.5 mph. In September he became the first pitcher on record to throw 1,000 pitches of 100 mph or faster in a season. No team had ever done that.
His ERA of 1.80 broke the Brewers’ franchise record. The Brewers went 103–59, the best record in baseball. They beat the Padres in the division series and swept the two-time defending champion Dodgers to win their first National League pennant.

Notable deals & projects
Signing bonus: $2.35 million in 2022, well above the $1.1 million slot value for the 63rd pick.
Contract: He is still in his pre-arbitration years, so his pay is set by the team, not negotiated in arbitration. He has not signed a long-term extension. (See “Net worth & money.”)
Pokémon: He is a big Pokémon card collector. At the 2026 All-Star Game he used a custom glove with a sleeve in the webbing that holds a Pokémon card.

What he’s known for
Velocity: He has thrown the fastest pitches by a starter in the tracking era. In Game 1 of the World Series, 37 of his 78 pitches were 100 mph or faster.
Extension: At 6-foot-7, he releases the ball closer to home plate than any other pitcher, according to CBS Sports. That makes his fastball look even faster.
Strikeouts: He struck out 252 batters in 2026, the most in the majors.
Pitch counts: His main weakness has been efficiency. High pitch counts kept him from finishing five innings in his first two starts of the 2026 playoffs.
In the news
Oct. 23, 2026: Misiorowski started Game 1 of the World Series at American Family Field. His first pitch, a 103.5-mph fastball to Yandy Díaz, was the fastest pitch ever thrown by a starter in a World Series game. He allowed one run on four hits in five innings and got the win in a 3–2 Brewers victory. It was the first World Series game ever played at American Family Field. Game 3 is Monday, Oct. 26, at Tropicana Field. If the series goes seven games, Game 7 would be Oct. 31.
Quotes

“It was amazing. Just to have this city behind me means the world. We couldn’t ask for anything better.” — after World Series Game 1, Oct. 23, 2026 (via UPI)
Controversies / criticism
2025 All-Star pick: He was added to the 2025 All-Star team after just five starts. The Philadelphia Phillies publicly criticized MLB for the choice.
October efficiency: Analysts have questioned whether he can pitch deep into playoff games. He did not finish five innings in either of his first two 2026 playoff starts.
Workload: Throwing that hard raises injury questions. He left a May 2026 start with a hamstring cramp while working on a no-hitter.
Net worth & money
His one known big payday is the $2.35 million signing bonus he got in 2022. He is not yet eligible for salary arbitration, so his salary is close to the league minimum. If he keeps pitching like this, he will be one of the most valuable players in the sport when he reaches arbitration and free agency. Treat celebrity net-worth sites as unverified.
